DMS collects, processes and stores distributed temperature measurements from DTS equipment. It enables operators to assess equipment conditions, receive notifications and analyze the facilities being monitored.

The system consists of monitoring equipment and software:

- DTS: distributed temperature measurement equipment.

- Fiber optic sensing cable: the temperature sensor.

- DMS server: Microsoft Server or Windows, a DBMS and DMS server software.

- DMS client: Microsoft Windows and DMS client software.

- DMS HMI software: the graphical user interface.

- Supporting equipment: system racks, network equipment, KVM devices and alarm equipment.
