We completed a temperature monitoring system for indoor coal storage at OO Power Station over a ten-month period from February to December 2020.
The system supports prevention of spontaneous combustion by automatically monitoring coal storage temperatures and enabling fire suppression through the site's OO system. High-temperature fiber optic sensing cables, DTS equipment and temperature monitoring software were installed.
The four storage cells were equipped sequentially. After the first cell was installed, more than eight months of trial operation demonstrated the system's stability and measurement accuracy.
The sensing cable installation method was selected for the operating environment to provide durability and accurate temperature measurement. Measured temperatures and alarm events are transmitted to the DCS, allowing the higher-level system to interface automatically with the OO fire suppression system.
Topics include indoor coal storage temperature monitoring, spontaneous combustion monitoring, high-temperature optical cables, DCS integration, temperature changes with coal storage duration, explosion-proof junction box installation and a patented optical sensing cable installation method.
