In November 2020, we installed a groundwater temperature monitoring system at Seoul National University, replacing point sensors that had been immersed directly in groundwater.
Previously, underground conditions prevented communication, so battery-powered sensors stored data for a limited period and required periodic data retrieval and battery replacement. The new system fully automates this process and measures all depths at one-meter intervals rather than only a few points.
The system was tested for reliable long-term operation under the site's limited power supply, taking advantage of DTS equipment's low power consumption.
Functions include long-term comparison of collected temperatures and temperature trend reports, enabling continuous automatic measurement and reporting.
Topics: groundwater and underground water-flow temperature monitoring, DTS and fiber optic sensing.
