In November 2023, we expanded a monitoring system for 15 km of sulfur pipelines at an oil production plant in the United Arab Emirates, building on the first-stage system installed several years earlier.
The pipelines operate continuously at approximately 135 degrees Celsius. High-temperature optical sensing cable and long-range DTS equipment were used to monitor the entire 15 km route.
The system includes panel self-diagnostics, redundant DCS interfaces, alarm relay functions, and transmission of alarm and temperature data to the DCS over Modbus TCP.
Temperature samples at 500-meter intervals are also sent to the DCS so the higher-level system can assess conditions along the complete pipeline and monitor alarm status.
The project was completed in cooperation with the global EPC contractor and the international engineering team responsible for construction.
Topics: sulfur pipeline temperature monitoring, very-long-range DTS, Middle Eastern and UAE oil production facilities, and pipeline monitoring.
